My Favorite WV Eats Part II – My top Restaurants

In My Favorite WV Eats Part 1 I talked about five of my favorite spots to get a bite. Now I am going to finish my top ten with the final five favorite restaurants. This truly was tough to cut it to five, but I managed a list to be proud of.

The Pokey Dot

Pokey Dot

Part two of my list starts in Fairmont. The Pokey Dot has a diner atmosphere and look with festive decorating. The menu includes some of the best burgers around. They offer old-fashioned style sodas with various flavorings. Save room for desert, take a shot at the humongous banana split or enjoy a milkshake. This makes for a great place to take the family for a fun meal.

The Pizza Place

If you want pizza in the mid ohio valley there is one choice above the rest. The Pizza Place in Parkersburg is by far one of the best pizzas out there. They offer pizza by the slice or you can get a pie for the entire crew. One warning, be ready to open the wallet because a pie is above the average price, but in my opinion its worth every penny.

Dem 2 Brothers and a Grill

It is time for some BBQ. I love me some BBQ, and I am not going to argue styles, I love them all. Unfortunately West Virginia does not have an abundance of BBQ restaurants so when I find one it is kind of special.  Dem 2 Brothers and a Grill in Charleston was one of those special finds recently.  So far I have sampled the pulled pork and brisket and both were perfection.   Next trip it will be the ribs on my plate.  Don’t forget to get a side of the sweet potato casserole.

Big John’s Family Fixings

In the magnificent Canaan Valley is Big John’s Family Fixings.  Big Johns is just minutes from Canaan Valley Resort and about 10 miles from Blackwater Falls.  Whenever I am near this area I will always make a stop here.  Big John’s Oak Barrel Sirloin is quite possibly the best steak I have ever had.  Pair the steak with their Asiago Potato Cake and I am a happy customer.  They have a very extensive menu and is budget friendly.  Bring the kids, this is a family restaurant game room and all.  Make sure to check this place whenever you are in the area.

Hill and Hollow

I saved the best for last.  Hill and Hollow in Morgantown offers a unique menu featuring appalachian cuisine with a twist.  Chef Marion Ohlinger has created a casual fine dining atmosphere with Hill and Hollow.  They focus on using local ingredients to create global cuisine.  The Brazilian cut loin steak is my absolute favorite meal, but if your adventurous try one of Chef Ohlingers culinary events hosted throughout the year.  Visit their web site at www.hillandhollowrestaurant.com for more information.

One quick disclaimer, this list is subject to change with my next meal out.  Did I miss your favorite spot?  Tell me all about it in the comments below.
